It often takes social media to get your complaint solved. About twenty years ago you would have to write letters to complain. Then you would wait to hear back from the company. Most of the time you would get a nice typewritten letter, and possibly a few coupons to go along with it. When you saw the letter arrive in the mail, it was like getting a check for a thousand dollars!
Nowadays, nobody seems to write a letter anymore. They use 140 character on Twitter to voice their frustrations, or go on other social media outlets to post. Corporations have hired monitors who address these concerns, and help them resolve them as quickly as possible.
Granted, my article below is a rather humorous one, but at the same time clever. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. went on Twitter to rant that he did not have a parking spot at the race shop. Currently he drives for Hendrick Motorsports. This past Sunday, he won the race at Talladega Superspeedway. A place very dear and near to his heart. His late father Dale Earnhardt won there many times, and if the speedway walls could talk, the stories would be endless.
Hendrick Motorsports solved that problem by giving him a parking spot next to his boss Rick Hendrick. I wonder who got bumped as a result of it. Earnhardt Jr. thanked them on Twitter for the well earned parking spot.
Finally, some corporations make a mention that they answer complains from 9-5 EST. Whereas I think it needs to be a 24 hour job. The complaints can and will build up overnight. Bad press is no good news. I don’t think the public is taking the time to praise the company they shop at or use in the off hours. Well granted there may be a few.
FYI – When I go to Lowes, and don’t get the customer service I am looking for, I tell the worker that Mr. Hendrick won’t be happy. When they look puzzled about who Mr. Hendrick is, I tell them they should know who he is, and he will be disappointed. Granted, I never met Mr. Hendrick in person. One of his race car drivers, Jimmy Johnson won six championships in NASCAR with Lowes as the sponsor. Mr. Hendrick doesn’t fool around. He hires talented and smart people to work with him.
